There are several core options to improve rendering (tesselation, upscaling, etc.). It’s compatible with beetle-saturn savefiles, so you can migrate over quite easily. It adds Sega ST-V emulation (the arcade version of the Sega Saturn). It’s more up-to-date, but doesn’t do anything that special compared to the competition. I don’t think this core sees much use these days. Yabause: Older core that isn’t maintained any more, with less compatibility than Beetle Saturn without the extra features of later forks. It doesn’t have any options to make games look prettier, so it’s just the core Saturn experience. Beetle also supports a lot of Saturn peripherals. It does require more powerful hardware, but I think the Steam Deck should be able to handle it. When it comes to Linux, there are four emulators that matter (all can be found as Retroarch cores):īeetle Saturn: This is a very accurate emulation core and thus offers the highest amount of compatibility. While there are other emulators for Saturn (SSF comes to mind), these are not compatible with Linux so I’ll skip over them.
